Future Goals
Dear Neighbors,
My promise for the next four years is to continue to be a problem-solver and facilitator to improve our County’s livability and economy. My goals are:
• Cost-effective, taxpayer-friendly county government
• Working with Sheriff Crabtree to protect our communities from crime
• Defining projects to relieve 99W congestion prior to building the Bypass
• Getting the Newberg-Dundee Bypass built to improve our economy
• Promoting a friendly business climate to encourage job creation
• Expanding public transit and installing bus shelters in all 10 cities
• Completing other highway, county road and bridge projects

Effective Leadership, Proven Results for Yamhill County
Below are some of the projects Leslie Lewis has successfully completed:
Taxpayer Advocate —
Helped manage the county’s budget prudently, using existing revenues More than tripling the county’s “rainy day fund” to over $900,000Enhancing Community Safety —
Finished four-year plan to fully fund the County Jail with existing revenues Added patrol deputies to improve traffic safety and fight drug-related crimes Helped successful implementation of a new 450mHz conventional radio system withcounty-wide coverage for law enforcement, Fire, and EMTsDoubling Public Transit Service and Ridership —
- Created routes serving all 10 Yamhill County cities with connections to Hillsboro Max, Sherwood, and Salem Transit without new taxes
Upgrading County Roads and Bridges —
- Resurfaced 54 percent (205 miles) of county paved roads (with more miles of resurfacing planned for Summer 2008); replaced 7 aging bridges (3 more budgeted to replace
Revitalized County Fair —
Supported 4-H, FFA and other youth programs by expanding the County Fair/Rodeo and the year-round Fairgrounds Event Center. Our Fair/Event Center has been profitable for 7 years.
Progress on the Newberg-Dundee Bypass —
Bypass route approved by all government agencies (Federal, State, local)
Raised nearly $40 million in Federal and State funds for the Bypass
Oregon Dept. of Transportation is now buying land in the Bypass corridor
